Right now #Blacklivesmatter movement is fighting racism against black people. Yes, all lives matter but what's important right now is to fight & speak up for black lives because they are the ones in danger.
As a young black woman, I understand the importance of this movement and activism because in cases like these, silence serves no one. It's great to see people of all races standing together and fighting for one race.
But recently I saw a post that said “Being black in America is the like being Zimbabwean in South Africa and also like being Ndebele in Zimbabwe....I can't breathe” and whoah! It broke my heart. The reason that post bothered me is because I know exactly what it means. It hurts knowing that our African brothers kill each other, simply because they are from different countries. Not only are they all humans, but they are of the same color, the same race.
It frustrates me to see how silent people become when it's a black man killing another black man for being of a different tribe, a different nation. It's sick how people have to live in fear, in a continent of their own. When a black people unite and stop dividing themselves, only then, we can fight bigger fights.
If we're gonna fight the good fight, let's fight it all, not only half of it. Racism, Xenophobia & Tribalism are all cut from the same fabric, let's not toss away one and keep the others. Let's fight them all.
Before we think about how other races treat black people, let's think about how we (as black people) treat other black people.
Black Lives Matter!
